Continuing Medical Education
Every Mississippi licensee must earn or receive not less than forty (40) hours of Category 1 continuing medical education in a two-year cycle as a condition precedent to renewing his or her license for the next fiscal year. For every Mississippi licensee with an active DEA certificate, five hours must be related to the prescribing of medications with an emphasis on controlled substances. Excess hours may not be carried over to another two-year cycle.
CME Options are available at:
- American College of Physicians (ACP) offers many CME options for the completion of AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits. Physicians can earn CME credits by attending live meetings, working online, or watching course recordings on individual schedules.
- Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) members have access to a variety of CME and professional development opportunities.
MSMA offers a new series of One-hour CME Activities available online for $35, each. Each activity will count as 1 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 credit. Once purchased, physician will have 30 days to watch it. Prescribing hours that are posted will count towards a physician's 5 hours of required prescribing controlled substances CME hours.
MSMA works directly with InReach to offer a variety of online CME courses. Physicians can access InReach’s library of courses here.
