Medical Schools in Mississippi

  • University of Mississippi School of Medicine, (UMMC) is the health sciences campus of the University of Mississippi. The medical center opened in 1955, but its beginnings date to 1903 when a two-year medical school was established on the parent campus in Oxford. UMMC offers professional medical education for a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Located in Jackson, the medical school offers MD/PhD dual degree programs. The four-year course leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

  • William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) is a private institution located in Hattiesburg, MS. WCUCOM’s curriculum and coursework are very similar to other osteopathic medical school programs except that it provides special emphasis in the following areas: osteopathic manipulative medicine, community and behavioral medicine, ambulatory care, and rural and community-based medical practice. WCUCOM holds full accreditation from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (CC-SACS)
