GME Professionals Day Set for August 19

Published on Monday, August 1, 2022

GME Professionals Day, held each year on the third Friday in August, is a day of recognition for the Program and Coordinators and Administrators, including those in Graduate Medical Education (GME) Offices. These individuals play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective operation of residency and fellowship in training programs.

As defined in the ACGME Common Program Requirements, program administrators manage the day-to-day operations of the program and serve as an important liaison with learners, faculty, other staff members, and the ACGME.  They serve as members of the leadership team, are critical to the success of the program, must possess skills in leadership and personnel management, and are expected to develop unique knowledge of the ACGME and Program Requirements, policies, and procedures.

The concept was begun by the Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME) and has been embraced by numerous institutions throughout the country – including the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and Training Administrators in Graduate Medical Education (TAGME).

We at OMPW would like to take this time to recognize enormous dedication that support Mississippi’s Graduate Medical Education residency and fellowship training programs.
